NICK FRASER : CHAPTER II

An evening of art, memory, music and legacy.
On 31 July 2026, the story of Nick Fraser returned to its East London roots for Chapter II, a one-day exhibition at Shoreditch Arts Club. Presented by the Estate of Nick Fraser, the exhibition brought together selected paintings, personal archive material, film, projection, live performance and a limited release of fine-art prints.
It was an opportunity to step further into the private world of an artist who created for decades without recognition, quietly forming an extraordinary visual language of his own.
A Return to East London
Born in East London in 1946, Nick spent much of his working life at the Tate & Lyle factory while painting privately away from the established art world.
His work explores the cosmic and the bodily, the sacred and the humorous, and the complex relationship between identity, masculinity, memory and existence. Chapter II brought Nick’s paintings back to the part of London that shaped him.
Following the first public exhibition of his work at The Crypt Gallery, Chapter II continued the gradual release of an archive that remained largely unseen during Nick’s lifetime.

The Night
As guests arrived at Shoreditch Arts Club, Nick’s paintings appeared throughout the space alongside imagery, archive material and moments from his life.
The evening moved between celebration and reflection. Visitors encountered the scale and physical presence of the original paintings, watched the short film telling the story of Nick’s life and friendship with Mark O’Shaughnessy, and gathered for a welcome from curator
Marcus O’Shaughnessy.
Music, live performance and projection transformed the venue into an immersive meeting place between Nick’s private artistic world and the East London community to which he belonged.
For some guests, Chapter II was their first introduction to Nick. For others, it was the next step in a story they had followed since Chapter I.
For everyone involved, it was a reminder of what can happen when an unseen life and an unheard creative voice are finally given space.

These photographs capture some of the people, conversations and moments that made Chapter II possible.
They preserve more than the appearance of the exhibition. They document the wonder of seeing Nick’s paintings fill the space, the quiet moments of contemplation in front of the work and the extraordinary warmth shown towards Nick, Mark, Marcus and the continuing archive.
Each person who attended became part of the next chapter in Nick’s story.

Continuing the Legacy
Chapter 2 was not an ending.
It marked another step in the careful preservation, documentation and release of Nick Fraser’s work.
The Estate of Nick Fraser continues to catalogue the collection, preserve the archive and create new opportunities for Nick’s paintings and story to be experienced by wider audiences.
A limited number of fine-art prints released for Chapter 2 remain available. Each edition has been produced to preserve the detail, texture and character of the original work and is accompanied by a certificate of authenticity.
Every purchase helps support the preservation and continued development of the Nick Fraser archive.
